The Great Smoky Mountains and Bryson City, once considered remote and untamed, became a place of renewal for Horace Kephart, a leading outdoorsman and author of the early 20th century. Seeking escape from city life, he found solace in the largest concentration of high peaks in the Eastern U.S in search of "the back of beyond". Kephart made Bryson City his base as he reconnected with nature. Today, Three Little Bears Retreat is located at the birthplace of the National Park along Lands Creek as well as being on the path to Kephart's mountain hideaway—now known as the "Road to Nowhere"—one of the most tranquil spots in the park, perfect for reconnecting with nature, just as Kephart would've hoped over 100 years ago.
The Retreat is a micro-resort of about 50 acres with epic views, mountain streams, and Lands Creek at the base featuring luxury lodges, cabins and glamping purposefully put together to allow people to reconnect with nature and each other, and we are 5 minutes to downtown Bryson City (3 miles), Deep Creek, the railroad and many other fun activities. Bryson City is a beautiful and historic mountain town remaining much the way it was when Horace lived here and has the best to offer for those wanting to visit the Great Smoky Mountain National Park with cute shops, breweries, and local restaurants as well as being base camp for all of the outdoor activities of hiking, fly fishing, mountain biking, white water rafting, horseback riding, tubing, golf and more.
